We were briefed with launching the Concern 24 Hour Fast. In our research into the Hunger Season, one story struck a particular chord with us, it was that of Ilo Jarson, a Kenyan pastoralist. When her stomach is swollen from having nothing to eat, she ties her red scarf around her waist and pulls it tight to trick her mind into thinking she’s not hungry. This simple, yet desperate measure, encapsulates the human side of suffering with quiet dignity. We used the scarf as an icon for the 2008 Concern Fast.
